Looking for fic!
Hi there!

I'm not sure if anyone checks this community anymore, but it's the only place that i know of that could possible help me in my search. I'm looking for a fic where Durnik is resurrected (or possible doesn't even die), but isn't made into a sorcerer. I think he was given a title of some sort in Sendaria and lives in some moderately fancy place. In the story he's on his deathbed and Polgara, who's madly in love with him, but has chosen to stay away because of his mortality, is called to his house. She visits and angst ensues.

I thought I would find this fic on ff.net, but if it was ever there it must have been deleted. Does anyone remember reading this and have a suggestion where I might find it? I'd be forver grateful!

Hi everybody! This place has been quiet lately...

I wanted to start a discussion post, if that's OK. I've been a fan of the Elenium/Tamuli books for years, but I'd never read the Belgarath books. Sadly, all of Eddings' books went out of print (at least in Spanish) some time ago, so by the time I became inerested they were gone :( So when last month I found book 1 in a pretty edition and cheap, I decided to start reading them.

I was expecting to love it, but I found it reeally slow, and kinda... boring? I don't know, it was fun to read, but it wasn't funny the way Elenium is, and the characters weren't that interesting. (Plus I don't particularly like Polgara, and Garion seems to childish for a 15-year-old.)

I read somewhere *coughTVTropescough* that these books were written before Sparhawk's, and I think it shows in that Eddings doesn't play with his tropes the way he does later.

My question is, is it just me? What do you think?

New Member & An Offering of Fanfiction
Hi everyone! I just joined the community after being absolutely ecstatic about finding it. I've been in love with Eddings' books for years. All my copies are practically falling apart from constant re-reading.

Luckily they've been spared more often now that I've got the audio books all neatly compacted on my ipod. =)

And I come with an offering of the first two chapters of a Post-Belgariad/Malloreon fanfiction. Hope you enjoy!

Title: The Requium: The World In A Downward Tilt
Chapter(s): Chapter One: The University of Melcena & Chapter Two: At The University
Fandom: David & Leigh Eddings; The Belgariad/The Malloreon
Characters: Multiple; next-generation, canon & original
Word Count: 5273 words
Ratings & Warnings: G. None

Her Imperial Highness, Crown Princess Sithli of Mallorea, only child of Emperor Zakath and Empress Cyradis of the Empire of Mallorea, arrived at the gates of the University of Melcena on the same day that winder didCollapse )

Belgariad RPG
Hi. New to the community, and really sad to only find out today that David Eddings is already dead and gone.

Anyway, I love fan fiction, and I was kinda looking for a post-Belgariad RPG to feed my Eddings fix... any recommendations? Is there even any?

David followed Leigh
It's been very silent here lately and I fear I have something to tell you, which might lead to even more silence.
On the 2nd of June David Eddings died.

May he rest in peace.

A Question Regarding The Malloreon!
Hello! I read The Malloreon nearly a year ago, and I was so absorbed in it that I read the five books in less than a week, which of course, means that now the scenes are all jumbled in my mind. So, I was wondering if any of you could tell me where to find the scene in which Belgarath turns into a fish to get something from the bottom of a lake? I think it's close to where Durnik helps repair that old boat, but I can't be certain.

Any help would be appreciated. :)

The Survey
Hi, new member here.  But not new to the books.  I think I picked them up when I was in 7th, maybe even 6th grade.  So that would be around, good God, 6 or 7 years ago.  Fuck, I'm old.  D:  Well, I saw that you all were doing a survey and those are always fun, so here's mine.

Cut for those who don't careCollapse )

What have YOU learnt from David Eddings?
I'm putting together a list of things I learnt from the Belgariad/Mallorean, particularly from a feminist perspective, but I'm curious now: I can't be the ONLY person to be deeply affected by the Eddingses' works. What have you learned about dealing with people from the Eddings books you read? What have you learned about life? What practical advice, aphorisms, general observations have you taken away and applied to your own life? I want to hear from you!

Looking for Characters from David Eddings' novels
Do you love Sparhawk and his friends, or perhaps even his enemies? Do you miss Garion and his battles to overcome evil? Do you love to roleplay, but never really thought you could roleplay as one of the characters from David Eddings' novels?

The roleplaying game Chaos Unraveled would love to see characters from his stories take part! Why not check us out if you're curious?

The Ultimate Chessboard: Chaos Unraveled

Come take part in the eternal struggle.

RP BEGINS April 28th, 2008
But newcomers are always welcome after that date! People who want to join afterwards and are afraid of being overwhelmed and not knowing what's going on - one, that's perfectly fine, since no one's expecting your character to, and two, the moderator will explain the plot up to that point for you if you ask! - don't worry!

Wow...it's been so long since I've posted here!  I just had to say that Eddings saved me from the stresses of my first year of college.  It's nice to have a good book to read when procrastinating writing papers...

An active Eddings community, yay
Hiya. I'm new, and very happy to be here! I have a terrible crush on Sparhawk and have for years. I recently reread the books and it reawakened my love of the character -- he's one of my top three literary crushes of all time -- and I've been sort of on the hunt for other people who can understand what I'm talking about. Thus far, the best I've managed is to convince another friend that she really does want to read the Elenium.

I have a confession to make...I've only read the Elenium. But my best friend loves all things Eddings and keeps me informed about the books I've not yet had the chance to read (she identifies Polgara as possibly the single best female character ever written). So even though I've only read those three books, I know bits and pieces about the others.

I made the icon earlier this week; it's shareable with credit. And that brings me to a topic of discussion, because I also made another Sparhawk icon. Who would you cast as the different Eddings characters?Collapse )

I look forward to participating in this community and learning more about the Eddingsverses.

Two points: one, me is looking for a beta who can cope with my obsessiveness towards anything and everything, but mostly Minor Pairings. Duties would include: checking to see if things fit properly with minor canon details, restraining possible excessive amounts of cliche sugary fluff, and figuring out the "logistics" of said Minor Relationships. I pride myself on actually using proper spelling/grammar (THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ITS AND IT'S IS SIMPLE, PEOPLE! WHY CAN'T YOU GET IT?) so that wouldn't be part of it. This person would also have to cope with my declarations that I'm going to write fanfic but never actually ending up writing any.

Of course, the entire community would probably work but I'd still prefer one person to bounce stuff off first before giving it to a bigger audience.

And, second point: Vella/Beldin. At the end of Seeress of Kell, it says that Yarblek and Vella rode up to the Vale, sold Vella for a huge diamond that Vella gave to Yarblek. Beldin received the sale papers and Vella's daggers, both of which he got rid of. Then, they went off onto a hill, talked for a bit, kissed, turned into hawks, and flew away "in a formal wedding dance" or something like that, "never to return".

A couple points that I don't really get in there:
  • When did Vella and Beldin get so attached to each other to the point where Beldin is willing to pay "everything he owns" for her and Vella is willing to give up her daggers? The little time they get in the books isn't really enough... friendship, but not romantic attachment as such. Unless, of course, there was stuff that we don't see... which is probably how it worked... Any ideas for that sort of thing?

  • How did they turn into hawks? Beldin, obviously, is easy-his "preferred" form is a hawk. But what about Vella? How did she turn into a hawk? Did Beldin turn her into a hawk or did she suddenly turn out to have the ability?

  • How did Vella fly? I'm pretty sure that Garion and Polgara weren't able to just launch off and start flying... but yet Vella seems to be able to just poof off and fly away.
  • Never return-so did they spend the rest of their lives as birds? I don't know if Vella would... even though she was all happy about the fact that Beldin could fly.

Hi... this is me joining the community. Obviously I like Eddings' works or I wouldn't be here. (It seems like nobody ever reads them any more... what a pity.)

Does anyone know where any good fanfc set in any of the series could be found? Me wants some fluff... (I have several "favorite pairings" in them... more so than any other book set...)

Thanks... (and wow, nobody ever seems to post much in here!)

Random fic (that I totally forgot I had written.)
Hello all.

I can't actually remember how long ago I wrote this, but the (lovely, lovely really well characterised) piece of fiction in the previous entry reminded me of it, so here it is.

Title: Hidden Depths
Fandom: David Eddings (Elenium/Tamuli)
Characters: Talen, Danae
Word Count: 1720
Rating: G
Summary: Talen makes a discovery, a decision and takes a chance. Post-series.
Disclaimer: I don't own any of the characters, because I'm just not that good. (God, to be that good.)

Spoilers for the Elenium and Tamuli.

Fan fiction
From reading previous entries I've come to the conclusion that posting fan fiction to this community is acceptable. If not, I'll be happy to delete this post.

Title: Memories
Fandom: David Eddings (Belgariad)
Characters: Polgara the Sorceress, Durnik
Word Count: 1436
Rating: G
Summary: A missing scene from Castle of Wizardry. Polgara and Durnik talk as they are visiting at Faldor's farm.
Disclaimer: I don't own the characters, I don't mean any harm and I sure as H don't make money off it.

The sun had almost set and the inner yard of Faldor’s farm was drenched in murky shadows.

A Candidate to play Polgara..?
I was browsing on Wikipedia (as everyone ends up doing sooner or later when they're trying to procrastinate) and I came across the character profile for Vala Mal Doran from Stargate SG-1.

Clickums... doesn't that picture look like a Polgara sort of angle? You can easily see a white streak in there and that face is just uncanny!

So, I was wondering if anyone has read "Regina's Song". I'm doing a fake case study on it for a psychology honors project, and I was wondering if anyone has read it and has ideas/suggestions/insights that could be helpful or useful.
